Battle for the Best Dry Shampoo

With the constant reminder that washing your hair everyday is bad, we are hearing about dry shampoo all of the time. Dry shampoo has also become more popular lately because it is one big time saver—especially for me that is.

I have used dry shampoo for years, in the following order of products: from Ojon Full Detox Rub-Out Dry Cleansing Spray, to Oscar Blandi Pronto Dry Shampoo Powder Spray to Klorane Extra Gentle Dry Shampoo with Oat Extract
to Kevin Murphy’s FRESH.HAIR Dry Cleaning Spray, to Batiste Dry Shampoo and lastly to Schwarzkopf’s göt2b Rockin’ It Encore Fresh Dry Shampoo.

Here’s my review on the ones I’ve tried & tested. Not all dry shampooes are created equal, so it’s important to find the best selection of dry shampoos at great prices to suit your specific needs and hair type.

1. Ojon Full Detox Rub-Out Dry Cleansing Spray

What it does:
This fuss-free fix is fortified with nature’s hair-repairing golden elixir plus purifying Soap Bark Tree Extract that cleans, refreshes, and revives hair in minutes—no water or blow-dryer required. Hair looks, feels, and smells freshly washed.

My thoughts:
The very first dry shampoo I ever tried since it launched over 5 years ago. The scent is light and it makes my hair feel so clean and silky. Gives my hair volume and keeps my hair non-greasy for the whole day. I’ve never had any product residue remaining– it washes out very easily. Unfortunately on several occasions I went to use it (2 times actually), the dispenser had clogged or leaked and it wouldn’t spray (the picture portrays the two bottles I still have that have faulty dispensers:(

While I was initially pleased with this product in the beginning (because I had nothing to compare it to), I am hesitant to repurchase because of the issues with the faulty dispenser. If it weren’t for that, I would repurchase because the formula is great.

2. Oscar Blandi Pronto Dry Shampoo Powder Spray

What it does:
The ultimate time saver—in a spray version. It refreshes, revives, and rejuvenates the hair in a matter of minutes—no water or blow-dryer required. It thoroughly and effectively soaks up oil, removes product buildup, and boosts volume. Hair looks, feels, and smells freshly shampooed with a clean, lemon verbena scent.

My thoughts:
It’s lightly scented, easy to use, and not cakey. This product does its job keeping my one or two day old hair feel and smell cleaner but its overpriced, and does not seem to last as long as other brands. The major factor for me is volume—and it doesn’t do much in adding volume.

Would not repurchase for reasons of price and no added volume.

3. Klorane Extra Gentle Dry Shampoo with Oat Extract

What it does:
Penetrates the hair absorbing dirt and hair products when sprayed on. When brushed out, Klorane Oat Extract Dry Shampoo takes all impurities with it, and you are left with soft, clean hair.

My thoughts:
Does the job of absorbing grease from hair, scent is ok. But what I don’t like is the way it makes your hair feel, makes my hair feel dry and crunchy—not very appealing.

Would not repurchase.

4. FRESH.HAIR Dry Cleaning Spray by Kevin Murphy

What it does:
A dry cleaner for the hair that gives body and texture, removes odors, excess oil, and all your sins from the night before.
Features & benefits
– Antioxidant rich
– Removes odors from hair
– Adds body and shine
– Paraben free
– Freshens up lifeless hair
– Removes excess product from hair

My thoughts:
I was first introduced to this by my hair stylist—the best advice ever! This dry shampoo helps you stretch your hairstyle one more day, has a very simple, pleasant scent and it does everything it claims to do. Check mark for all the above! I just LOVE how my hair feels after a couple of spritzes. And best of all, it adds volume and fullness and shine to my 1-2 day old hair! So far no other dry shampoo out there beats this one for me!

A no-brainer. Would repurchase times infinity in spite of the hefty price. A little goes a long way, so it does last long. 😍

5. Batiste Dry Shampoo

What it does:
Instantly refreshes your hair between washes, leaving it gorgeously clean and fresh with added body.

My thoughts:
It leaves your hair soft and very clean. You do not feel the product in your hair nor does it make it stiff, which is the biggest problem with most other dry shampoos. Provides some volume to hair.

Great price. Would repurchase only when I need a quick replacement to Kevin Murphy’s (since it is usually sold out at my salon).

6. göt2b Rockin’ It Encore Fresh Dry Shampoo by Schwarzkopf

What it does:
Tunes up your do and refreshes your hair without washing it so you can rock your style one more day… or more!

My thoughts:
Definitely leaves your hair clean and absorbs oil. It does an ok job of giving volume to hair that hasn’t been washed in a couple days. The turn-off is that it gives off a powdery residue making hair feel kind of stiff and making my hair look rather dull and dry. It gets all over everything like hairspray does, so any bathroom fixtures like counter tops and floors tend to have a thin filmy coating. The scent is also a very overpowering chemical scent which makes me want to run outside for fresh air.

Would not repurchase.

Last words:
Waterless shampoo is certainly a great alternative to make your hair look fresh and smell clean. It may take some trial and error to find the best product to get the job done and you might end up buying a few of them before you find the one that works best in your hair but in the long run you will definitely save time and money.

Thank you for reading my blog.😊

Are you a fan of dry shampoo? Which is your fave/least fave?

  1. Very thorough review! Kevin Murphy’s FRESH.HAIR Dry Cleaning Spray sounds great. I’d like to try it. I see the company is based in Australia but ships worldwide. I’ll check into whether any stores in Canada carry it.

    • It’s definitely worth a try. The Kevin Murphy line is amazing! I’m pretty sure you will find it in one of the salons in Vancouver. They are sold throughout some exclusive salons in Canada. I get mine at my salon. Let me know if you find it!
